Far too many businesses focus on search engine optimisation (SEO) after their website goes live, without realising the headaches this can cause.
SEO should never be an afterthought for your business. The emphasis on how your customers are going to find you needs to be a priority when building your website. Otherwise, you will spend a considerable chunk of your budget unnecessarily.
- Would you build a house without foundations?
- Would you drive in the dark without headlights?
- Would you go out to sea in a rowing boat without oars?
Preparation is key to ranking higher on search engines.
What is SEO, and why is it so important?
When you don’t understand a process or term, you are more likely to dismiss it as unimportant. In your subconscious, you recognise a need for this element, but it ends up at the bottom of your to-do list until you’ve got time to learn more.
SEO is a vast area that many business owners don’t understand. They’ve heard the phrase, they may associate it with Google, but that’s the extent of their knowledge.
What if I told you that building your SEO foundations first can drive organic traffic to your website, boost your profile, attract new clients, and convert clicks into sales or leads?
Now you’re interested!
While it’s lovely to have a gorgeous website with colourful images, shiny buttons, and sliders portraying your business mission statement, without attracting sales it’s a useless commodity.
How can you be prepared?
Let’s explore some of the main areas pertaining to SEO that can impact your business and ranking, and why SEO needs to come first.
- What’s your domain name?
A domain name is what people type into their browser to find you. Choosing a name that makes sense to your customers is the best option. My business name is SEO Angel, and my domain name matches that making it quick and easy for my clients to find me. It’s best to choose a domain name that is memorable, contains keywords, and corresponds with what your business offers.
When you launch a new website, Google will put you in a metaphorical holding cell for a couple of months until they can work out if your site is trustworthy. Having solid SEO foundations in place gives you a better start and builds authority from the outset.
- Do your keyword research
Are you clear on the keywords and phrases relating to your business and industry? Doing thorough research provides you with an understanding of what your clients are searching for online. It’s imperative that you know your super customers on a deeper level to establish trust.
Your end goal with website SEO is to turn up when your audience types a specific keyword into their search engine. Using specific terms (or long-tailed keywords) will help you compete with the well-established websites, but this SEO-friendly information needs to be built into your website at the beginning.
Building a website from scratch can be an expensive venture. Suppose you fail to develop the SEO foundations before you launch. In that case, you’ll be forced into hiring an SEO expert later to make the necessary updates and changes needed to improve your ranking.
I work differently at SEO Angel. As part of my Let’s Get Visible Coaching and Mentoring Programme I work closely with web designers so that, as a team, we can ensure your site has the right keywords, titles, Meta descriptions, alt tags, and more.
Working with a team in this way saves you time and money and allows your website to rank higher straight from the launch period.
With the help and expertise of an SEO expert and designer, they will be able to show you how to get inside the head of your ideal client, and the steps you need to take.
Building the architecture of your site, which includes your main page and subpages, and ensuring the navigation (how your audience moves around your website pages) is smooth can be an exact science.
Finding a team to guide you through the entire process will save you valuable time, money, and headaches.
- Have you optimised for mobile and voice search?
In the second quarter of 2020, mobile devices (excluding tablets) generated 51% of global website traffic.
It’s safe to say that your ideal client will be viewing your website on their phone at some point, and if the site isn’t optimised for mobile devices, then you are at a high risk of losing that potential customer before they’ve even read your home page.
Your website needs to be responsive, with easy to use functions that offer your client an enjoyable browsing experience. A big ‘buy now’ button is just one of the straightforward ways to make the journey painless for a website visitor.
Statistics also show that over 50% of all searches in 2020 are voice search queries, and if your business website isn’t optimised for voice, then this is another area where you could be missing out. If you’re interested in finding out more about voice search, you might like my blog post How Voice Search Affect SEO (Have You Optimised Your Content?).
- Demystify SEO
Visibility starts with solid business foundations, and that’s why I spend time reviewing why you started your business and the passion that drives you. What do you love about what you do? Once this has been done, we will dig deep into your ideal client and their searching and buying behaviours.
As part of this process, we also look at your social media visibility before implementing a bespoke plan to boost your business profile and create a buzz about your company.
By understanding SEO, you will be better equipped to build a powerful website. Your site will not only reflect what you do, show you to be an authority in your niche, and share your personality, but it will be one that makes you money and helps your business thrive.

The Let’s Get Visible Programme
Getting to know and understand my clients, their target audience, and the passions behind why they do what they do are one of the aspects of my job that I love. Having such a compelling story myself helps me see the benefits of a strong brand, and a thirst for the role my clients play in their customers’ lives.
Being able to combine my unique experience in business development and SEO allows me to create a visibility package that not only helps my clients but makes them money along the way.

What’s involved in the programme?
Search engine optimisation (SEO) is all about visibility, which is vital in the current competitive market. You can read more about why now is the time to invest in your SEO HERE. Every business owner must understand the potential SEO has on their visibility, as well as the effect it has on their ideal client and customers.
SEO helps your business to grow and enables you to meet your objectives. My bespoke ‘Let’s Get Visible’ programme is a 7-step process that gets consistent results. What’s even more exciting is that you get more than my unique skills; you also get to work with my team who reliably manage any copywriting, graphic design, web design, marketing, and business development.
- Step 1 – Business Purpose
We take an in-depth look at why you do what you do and uncover your WHY. What’s that driving passion that gets you up every morning eager to work on your business?
- Step 2 – Ideal Audience
A vital component of any SEO analysis. Who is your target audience? Who is the right fit for you and your business? Who will get the best results from what you offer?
- Step 3 – Ideal Audience Search and Buying Behaviour
There’s power in research! We need to understand how your clients find you, what search terms they use online, and any patterns of behaviour that impact your business.
- Step 4 – Competitor Research
Who is your competition? Why do they outrank you on Google? What solutions do they offer? We look closely at how the competition is achieving what you are only dreaming about.
- Step 5 – Social Media Visibility
How visible are you on social media? What channels are you using, and is it right for your ideal client? What language, phrases, and messages are you using online?
- Step 6 – Search Engine Visibility
Now it’s time to look at web-optimisation, re-design and re-structure. How visible are you online? How simple is the customer journey for potential clients? Can they find you? Is your website operating at maximum capacity?
- Step 7 – Connection Planning
Here’s where we pull everything together and plan your ongoing content to connect with your audience consistently.
Will the programme work for me?
I received an excitable message on LinkedIn from one of my clients after she gained 5 conversions in a week.
“I’ve secured five new clients in the first two weeks of July and I have four more ready to start in August too.”
Jane Hooper Coaching
How did this happen? We implemented the 7-step programme, she followed my advice, and she gained 5 new clients and went on to generate more leads that week. Simples!
“The difference with Andrea is she is transparent and open about what needs to be done and how working together will achieve it.
Step by step we progressed my personal plan, fully supported and guided to achieve everything we set out to do.
There was hand-holding and patience, direction and clarity – whatever I needed.”
The ‘Let’s Get Visible’ programme is delivered over Zoom on a 1:1 consultancy basis and takes approximately 15 hours over the 7-step process.
Following the steps to the letter and carrying out all the recommendations I lay out for you will see a 30-50% increase in revenue within the first 3-months.
If you feel this is something you want to explore for your business, you can book a free visibility call to discuss it further.
